Volunteer Opportunities

Parent involvement is great for children, great for teachers, and great for our school!

Studies show when parents get involved in their children’s education and school, it pays off! Research shows that children whose parents are actively involved in the school are more likely to:

  • Earn higher grades and test scores
  • Adapt well to school
  • Attend school regularly
  • Have better social skills
  • Show improved behavior
  • Graduate and go to college

A strong volunteer program is the foundation of Fort Caspar Academy.  Every family is expected to donate a minimum of 10 hours per semester to the school.  Parents may participate in parent committees, PTO meetings, assisting in their child’s classroom, help with sports teams or clubs, or work in the library or workroom.  Parent volunteers help develop strong home/school partnerships that result in an increased quality of education for our students.

To volunteer for any of the following tasks, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Wendy Amick.

OR – complete an online form to let us know how you would like to volunteer!

Activities

We need parents like you in order to have events such as Polar Express Night and Last Blast!  If you would like to be a part of planning and executing fun events for our students, please contact our volunteer coordinator!

Art Helper

Mr. Washut is looking for volunteers to:

  • sharpen pencils in the Art room daily before school
  • clean tables in the Art room daily after school

Classroom Volunteers

Classroom teachers have many opportunities for helping in the classroom including but not limited to:   helping with centers, class parties, sharpening pencils,  wiping down desks, and copying in the workroom.  Please contact your child’s teacher to help out with these opportunities.

Discover Days

We still need your help with our Discover Days for this school year. In past years we have known when our Discover Days would be in advance and it was much easier to have parents sign up to help. This year things are different; we are given pending dates one month at a time. This means we have to ask for your help with short notice. We apologize for any inconvenience and we greatly appreciate your help. We cannot do this without you.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Do you have a special talent you’d like to share with our students?  We are always in need of coaches for sports teams and clubs at FCA!  Whether it’s Spelling Bee, Student Council, volleyball, Lego Robotics….or even if you’d like to start a club, we’d love to have you here helping our students learn and grow.

Fundraising

School fundraising has been around for decades.  It is an essential way that we sponsor activities, clubs, events and even supplement our curricular materials.  It helps us support teachers, enhance student learning and foster home & school communication.  Some of our fundraising efforts in the past have included Box Tops, Fun Run, Crowd Funding and more.

Governing Council

The Governing Council is the governing board of the PTO.  Governing Council members represent the interests of  PTO members and  implement and maintain policies.   Council members are expected to attend all PTO meetings and be actively involved in at least one committee at FCA.

Library

Mrs. Blakemore is looking for parents to help in several different capacities in the library:

Help during your child’s library class – check-in/check-out books, clean and re-shelve books.

  • Clean and re-shelve books intermittently.
  • Help during Scholastic Book Fair – Fall  and Spring.  Set-up, cashier, take down book fair.

Playground Parents

Students enjoy having parents at recess to coach a game or just spend time with them and their friends!  Please refer to the bell schedule to see your child’s recess times.

Safe Schools

The primary goal of the Safe Schools Committee is to keep our students safe from the time they arrive at school until they go home at the end of the day.  Some of the tasks of this committee include:  morning traffic duty, identifying safety concerns, and planning and implementing new safety procedures.

School Store Donations

The school store is in need of donations.  Items such as: snacks, small toys, bookmarks, school supplies, drinks, stickers, holiday items (no Halloween), etc. would be greatly appreciated.  Items can be dropped off in the office with a note that they are for school store.  Your donations help us raise funds for our PTO.

Staff Support

We are very fortunate to have such an amazing group of teachers and staff at FCA!  The Staff Support Committee gives thanks to the staff in a variety of ways.  If you like to bake, cook or create you should consider helping with staff support functions.

Take Home Library

The ‘Take Home Library’ provides books for Kindergarten and First Grade students to take home Monday through Thursday.  These books are then brought back to school the following day.  Throughout the year, volunteers listen to students read in order to determine their reading level.  Once a level is determined volunteers collect books from the previous day and find new books for each child that are appropriate for their reading level.  Volunteers are needed in the morning Monday through Thursday.  Please consider donating one or more mornings for this worthwhile opportunity!

Website / Facebook Page Administration

You don’t have to be a technology guru to help out with our school website and Facebook page!  Training is available, and it really is a lot of fun.  If you’re organized and enjoy designing graphics and being “in the know” about the happenings at FCA, this is the job for you!
